Hifz Overview

There are 4 essentials to the everyday routine:

  • Sabaq

  • Revision of two previous lessons (inclusive of the Sabaq Dhor)

  • Sabaq Dhor

  • Dhor

    Commitment From Parents

    Stated below is a general Hifz policy. It is at the discretion of the Management to address Hifz issues as they deem fit, for the betterment of the Hifz programme.

    • Parents need to be committed and highly involved on a daily basis.
    • Ensure that your child is sitting down to learn/revise every day at appointed times
    • Devoting time early in the morning and after Maghrib Salaah is a good practice for parents to instil
    • Priorities need to be clear – if learners are absent from class on a regular basis for whatever reason, this will affect consistency. Parents need to think about such issues before admitting a child into the Hifz class
    • Attendance on Saturday morning and Sunday evening is compulsory
    • Parents need to enquire about Sabaq, Dhor etc. daily [by using the BLACK book]
    • Parents are requested to plan family holidays outside of Hifz times.
    • Parents need to set an example to learners and not become aggressive towards the teacher or other learners. Should there be a problem, the correct protocol needs to be respected and followed

    Sabaq

    This is learnt by the child every day and is to be recited daily to the teacher after Fajr at the start of the lesson. Learners will be given 2-3 minutes to revise their Sabaq before being called up. Please note that this is not the time to learn Sabaq – all allocated work should be learnt at home.

    - A minimum of one page a day must be learnt. (Sabaq will be increased or decreased when necessary)
    - Sabaq will be stopped for Dhor purposes when necessary
    - Learners are expected to complete 2 paras per term. Please note that this is the MINIMUM requirement.
    - Learners must complete 7 paras per year
    - First year students must complete 3 paras at least
    - Upon the completion of a JUZ, an assessment will take place by the HOD (i.e. learner will be required to recite the complete JUZ adequately); then only can they progress to the next JUZ
    - If the programme is followed as described above, then the learner would have completed Hifz by the end of Grade 8.

    Sabaq Dhor

    The para that the learner is currently busy with needs to be revised every day until completion of the para.The learner will be called upon to recite this over and above the normal daily lessons.
    Upon completion of the Para an assessment will take place.

    Dhor

    Dhor is the revision of all the Juz completed. Dhor must be recited every day.

    SHA has certain targets in place which all learners have to meet. These targets are as follows:
    - Completing a minimum of 2 paras per term
    - 7 paras per year
    - Consistency with regards to Dhor
    - Abiding by the Islamic ethos and Sunnah at all times

    Maktab Section

    A traditional 2-hour maktab syllabus has been integrated into the daily routine, with an emphasis on practical application rather than theoretical concepts. The focus will be on the following subjects:

    • History, Fiqh and Aqaaid

      The life of Rasulullah(SAW) and lessons to be learnt from his blessed life. Ultimately, we want to develop the noble character of Rasulullah (SAW) in each of our valued learners. Learners will also learn the basic day-to-day laws which relate to our worship and routines.

    • Ahaadith Wal Akhlaaq

      Studying the traditions (Hadith) of Rasulullah (SAW) and his noble character.

    • Duaas

      Duaas is one of the most important forms of worship in our lives. Learners will be encouraged to learn their Duaas well during this session.
